Let Backwater Jack's Help You Keep Your New Year's Resolution!

It's tradition for people to make New Year's resolutions. However, it is also pretty common to not follow through with them. While a resolution to visit the Lake of the Ozarks' favorite waterfront bar and grill more this year is an easy resolve to keep, not all resolutions are so easy. At Backwater Jack's, we want to help you keep your New Year's resolutions this year and not let them fall to the wayside. Here are seven tips from the best waterfront bar and grill at the Lake of the Ozarks to help you stick with your New Year's resolutions.

1. Be Realistic

One way to make sure you fall short of your goal is to make it unattainable. If you think you drink too much caffeine, making a New Year's resolution to completely cut it out is setting you up to fail. Instead, make that goal attainable by setting it as avoiding it more often or limiting your intake.

2. Make A Plan

Decide how you are going to handle it when you begin to think about breaking your resolution. If your resolution is to lose weight and you are dealing with the temptation to skip going to the gym, your plan could be to call a friend and invite them to work out with you. It is also a good idea to practice positive thinking and self-talk, or reminding yourself how this resolution will affect your life and how your slip up will affect your long-term goal.

3. Talk About It

Don't keep your resolution a secret. Tell your friends and family member, as they will be there to support you. The best-case scenario is to find a friend who shares your New Year's resolution and you can motivate each other.

4. Track Your Progress

Keep track of every single success you've had, no matter how small. Short-term goals are easier to keep, and each small accomplishment you have will keep you motivated until the end.

5. Don't Get Discouraged

Don't beat yourself up over small slip ups. Obsessing over the occasional slip won’t help you achieve your goal. Do the best you can each day, and take one day at a time.

6. Never Give Up

If you find yourself running out of steam when it comes to keeping your resolution by mid-February, don't give up. It is okay to start over again and recommit yourself to your goal for 24 hours. You can do anything for 24 hours. Each day will build on each other and before you know it, you're back on track.

7. Reward Yourself!

It is important to recognize your victories. This will help you to continue your resolution throughout the year. If you've been working hard and keeping on track the first half of the year, reward yourself with a vacation to the Lake of the Ozarks. While you're here, make sure to visit Backwater Jack's! We will be happy to celebrate your accomplishments with you!
