Let Backwater Jack's Help You Keep Your New Year's Resolution!

It's tradition for people to make New Year's resolutions. However, it is also pretty common to not follow through with them. While a resolution to visit the Lake of the Ozarks' favorite waterfront bar and grill more this year is an easy resolve to keep, not all resolutions are so easy. At Backwater Jack's, we want to help you keep your New Year's resolutions this year and not let them fall to the wayside. Here are seven tips from the best waterfront bar and grill at the Lake of the Ozarks to help you stick with your New Year's resolutions.

1. Be Realistic

One way to make sure you fall short of your goal is to make it unattainable. If you think you drink too much caffeine, making a New Year's resolution to completely cut it out is setting you up to fail. Instead, make that goal attainable by setting it as avoiding it more often or limiting your intake.

2. Make A Plan

Decide how you are going to handle it when you begin to think about breaking your resolution. If your resolution is to lose weight and you are dealing with the temptation to skip going to the gym, your plan could be to call a friend and invite them to work out with you. It is also a good idea to practice positive thinking and self-talk, or reminding yourself how this resolution will affect your life and how your slip up will affect your long-term goal.

3. Talk About It

Don't keep your resolution a secret. Tell your friends and family member, as they will be there to support you. The best-case scenario is to find a friend who shares your New Year's resolution and you can motivate each other.

4. Track Your Progress

Keep track of every single success you've had, no matter how small. Short-term goals are easier to keep, and each small accomplishment you have will keep you motivated until the end.

5. Don't Get Discouraged

Don't beat yourself up over small slip ups. Obsessing over the occasional slip won’t help you achieve your goal. Do the best you can each day, and take one day at a time.

6. Never Give Up

If you find yourself running out of steam when it comes to keeping your resolution by mid-February, don't give up. It is okay to start over again and recommit yourself to your goal for 24 hours. You can do anything for 24 hours. Each day will build on each other and before you know it, you're back on track.

7. Reward Yourself!

It is important to recognize your victories. This will help you to continue your resolution throughout the year. If you've been working hard and keeping on track the first half of the year, reward yourself with a vacation to the Lake of the Ozarks. While you're here, make sure to visit Backwater Jack's! We will be happy to celebrate your accomplishments with you!

Thanks For A Great Season!

We couldn't hold off the winter season forever, and unfortunately, this will be our last week of the season. To celebrate the wonderful 2016 season, we are thanking all of our customers with a Customer Appreciation Day on December 23 with half price food and drinks until it's GONE! With the season coming to a close at Backwater Jack's, we wanted to take some time to look back at the fabulous summer season at Lake of the Ozarks' best waterfront bar and grill!

Best Spot on the Lake
My favorite restaurant on the Lake is BJ's Bar and Grill. Great food and friendly staff, but dining outside on the deck and soaking up the ambiance is the best! Had the grouper--excellent! ~ 44beachbonnie Springfield, Illinois

Crabby Monday's Very Enjoyable
"Great service when many other locations already closed for the winter months. The cleanliness and service quality matched the solid food quality. Drinks also yummy! Loved the crab legs. No sides included for the Deal, but with a little appetizer, you are easily satisfied. Thank you" ~ Jeff M.

Great Lakeside Restaurant
"Very nice set up with water views, and boat slips. Great food with weekday specials! friendly and helpful staff" - Patty M. Dewey, Arizona

The Place To Go When At The Lake
"Visiting Lake of the Ozarks? This is the place to go for the true lake experience. It has easy access by water or land. Get there early to get a good docking space. This is a lively scene with live music on the weekends and great people watching. The food is good. I recommend the grouper and fried potato salad." ~ Joan P.

Always A Fun, Good Spot For Food & Drinks
"Newly remodel, place looks sharp, clean and revitalized! Food, drinks and service is always good and consistent! Last visit tried the seafood quesadilla and grouper bites, both were very good along with the huge Cobb salad! Always a safe bet!" ~ Cindy C. St. Louis, Missouri

Had A Fun Time
"Rainy day, decided to try here for a bite to eat. Bartender was fun, pretty interesting. Best grouper fingers I've ever had, and I lived in FL for 20 years! I'd recommend it." ~ Irie5678 Bethel Springs, Tennessee

Always Fun Going Here
"Ice cold beer, nice scenery, nice boats, great food, and the bartenders put up with us after being on the lake all day! Will go back soon!" ~ John L. Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Fun Spot At The Lake To Eat
"My wife and I stopped in for lunch on August 14. This is a very fun atmosphere with a great menu. We sat outside and had the grouper fingers and a BLT. Both were excellent as was the service. I highly recommend trying this place out. Easily accessible by car and boat." ~ Ron-in-Txk Texarkana, Texas

Good Bar and Grill Food
"Enjoyed our appetizers at Back Water Jacks. They've got really great wings and the biggest Crab Rangoon at the lake. Many varieties of beer. Good service and good food!" ~ LakinGal

Lakeside Party with GREAT Food
"If you are on the lake and need a drink and food this is the stop to make! After stopping in all the different places on the lake, Jacks is the one to behold!
Food is OUTSTANDING and great food for the price. The drinks are primo and the atmosphere is created to make you never want to leave. The place looks pretty small from the lake but with 3 stories including an air conditioned topside, this place can hold more than it looks.
The service is great and the delicious food comes out within minutes.
We had a party of 8 and even with the variety of food ordered the food was delivered within 15-20 mins. I had a ribeye steak sandwich (good) and a couple of the group had the biggest Cobb salad I have ever seen! If I liked cobb salad I would have regretted the choice I made. It looked amazing! Crab legs were good (stole one from my friend).
The Backwater specialty is Rum Runners - Yummmy! If you like rum...try this.
The band was spectacular. They could play anything and there is a small dance floor if you don't mind having a good time.
Plenty of room to pull your boats up to the docks. Also a big parking lot if you come from the strip in Osage Beach." ~ Chris D.

Thank You!!

Without our loyal customers, we wouldn't have been able to stay open this far into the season. We couldn't hold off the winter weather forever and our last day for the 2016 season will be December 23. We would love it if you would join us to celebrate the wonderful season at the best waterfront bar and grill at the Lake of the Ozarks with half price food and drinks until it's GONE! 10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Whiskey

The weather is getting colder and many people have switched from delicious, frozen drinks to drinks that warm us up! Many favorite winter cocktails feature whiskey, so your Lake of the Ozarks waterfront bar and grill dug up some facts about it so you can impress your friends the next time you're around the bar.

1. Whiskey can last forever.
If left unopened and out of direct sunlight, whiskey can be kept indefinitely. In addition, if you open a bottle and seal it up properly, it can stay for a very long time. The sun won't ruin whiskey, however, it can change the taste.

2. There are millions of barrels of whiskey.
Because of the aging process, whiskey is kept in barrels for several years by most distillers. This means that in warehouses around the world there are tons of barrels just sitting. Kentucky alone has 5.7 million barrels of bourbon in storage, which is the most the state has had since 1975.

3. Whiskey is clear before barreling.
Whiskey is perfectly clear when it comes off the stills. The darker color comes from the white oak in which it's aged. A barrel provides whiskey about 60 percent of its flavor and 100 percent of its color.

4. Whiskey doesn't have to be aged in new barrels.
Tennessee whiskey must be aged in new white oak casks and bourbon needs to be aged in new charred oak barrels. However, many Irish and Canadian whiskey markers reuse those same barrels.

5. There's a difference between whisky and whiskey.
There is some debate whether or not the Scottish distilleries are the only ones who can spell it whisky. However, the general consensus is that whisky refers to Scottish distilleries and whiskey refers to everyone else.

6. There are between 5-7 places were whiskey is distilled.
We say 5-7 because it depends on who you ask. However, the five main regional whiskeys that are always included are Scotch Whisky, Irish Whiskey, Kentucky Bourbon, Canadian Whiskey and Tennessee Whiskey. The two regions that are disputed are Japan and New Zealand.

7. Whiskey is beer before it turns into whiskey.
Whiskey is technically just beer that has been distilled a few times. Whiskey is made from wort, which is made up of all the ingredients you find in beer: water, yeast, malts and even hops to prevent unwanted pests in the process.

8. Whiskey was still produced during the prohibition.
Although it was already common knowledge that there were no real medicinal qualities for whiskey, there was a law set up to allow a doctor to prescribe whiskey as medicine. Those with a prescription would go to their local pharmacy to get their whiskey. However, the amount wasn't enough to consume in large quantities.

9. Founding father and whiskey maker?
By his death in 1799, George Washington was the leading whiskey distiller in the United States. At his old residence on Mount Vernon, they have reconstructed the distillery and still sell small amounts to the local community.

10. Weather affects whiskey
The climate when the whiskey is being aged in has a difference in the way it tastes, which is why whiskey aged in Canada tastes difference than those aged in warmer climates.

Lake of the Ozarks' favorite waterfront bar and grill is still open Thursdays to Sundays and serving up your favorite cocktails.
