Our Awesome Appetizers - the Mini-Meal Before the Meal!

Appetizers are meant to be a small something to eat to tide you over until the main meal arrives. At our waterfront bar & restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks, the majority of our appetizers are hearty enough to be a meal all on their own! That is unless you're with a big group of people at Backwater Jack's that are all sharing the app. (But in that case, surely you'll be ordering more than just one!)

Regardless of whether you're sharing plates from our appetizer menu or keeping the entire dish all to yourself, ordering an app is a great way to start your dining experience. Around here, you'll find two different appetizer menus to choose from. One at the main restaurant and another down by the pool at the Sushi & Asian Grill. 

Here's a quick peek at both of those. (Settle in, because these lists are long!)  

-Backwater Jack's Apps-

Jack's Quesadilla
A large flour tortilla shell stuffed with black olives, tomatoes, red and green onions, and shredded cheddar jack cheese and then grilled. It's served with sour cream and salsa and is available with veggies, chicken, or our seafood mix.  

Chips & Salsa

Jack's Baked Nachos
A pile of tortilla chips topped with tomatoes, black olives, and onions, and that's smothered in shredded cheddar jack cheese and baked. Available with chicken, veggies, or seafood (shrimp, scallops, and crab meat.) 

Chicken Strips
Hand-breaded to order and you will taste the difference! You can also order the "Buffalo-style" and we'll dip them in our special hot sauce. 

Grilled Chicken Tenders
Four chicken tenders marinated in a teriyaki glaze and grilled to juicy perfection. 

Grouper Fingers
Our version of a hand-breaded filet in our secret honey breading served with raspberry tartar sauce. 

Stuffed Mushrooms
Large mushroom caps that are stuffed with our handmade crab cream cheese mix then baked in white wine sauce. 

Jack's Red Beans & Rice
A homemade spicy mix of red beans, green peppers, onions, and sliced Andouille sausage spiced with Cajun seasonings and simmered to perfection. Served with wild rice and our sweet cornbread. 

Ozark Onion Rings
Colossal yellow onion rings deep-fried to a golden brown.

Jack's Jumbo Jalapeno Poppers
Hand-breaded jalapeno peppers hand-stuffed with our crab cream cheese mix and served with our special, spicy, house raspberry inferno sauce. 

Colossal Crab Rangoon
Four oversized wontons stuffed with Jack's own crab cream cheese mix, fried to a golden brown, and served with our homemade apricot sauce. 

Roasted Red Bell Pepper Hummus
House-blended hummus served with sweet green and red peppers, broccoli florets, and toasted blackened tortilla points.

Snow Crab Clusters
Nothing but the freshest snow crab clusters! They are boiled hot and served by the pound with a tub of butter. 

Backwater's Buffalo Shrimp
Ten butterflied shrimp breaded and served with a side of Jack's hot sauce. 

West Key's Boiled Shrimp
Succulent shrimp boiled in Cajun spices, chilled and served by the pound or half-pound with fresh-cut lemons and cocktail sauce. 

Raw Oysters on the Half Shell
Served cold by the dozen or half-dozen with fresh-cut lemons and cocktail sauce. 

A dozen jumbo chicken wings fried to a golden brown then tossed in your choice of our homemade sauces: Original Hot, Sweet Honey Jerk, or Half & Half. 

-Sushi & Asian Grill Apps-

Crabby Basket
Four Dungeness crab and pepper jack filled crab rangoons with a spicy ginger vinaigrette.  

Pork or Veggie Gyoza
Six fried or steamed gyoza with a soy-ginger vinaigrette. 

Shrimp at the Beach
Coconut shrimp with mango salsa.

Dirty Jack
Queso, BBQ pulled pork, black bean salsa, chopped jalapeno, and wonton chips.

BWJ Nachos
Wonton chips, grilled chicken, mozzarella, pepper jack cheese, salsa, house-pickled jalapeno, and black bean aioli. You may choose to substitute pulled pork or seared tuna for a small additional charge.

Korean Hot Chic
Six fried chicken wings with ranch and celery with your choice of sauce: teriyaki, Korean original hot, or mango habanero. 

Seaweed Salad or Squid Salad

Small Asian sliders with a steamed bun served with spiced binger coleslaw.

  • Spam & Egg with Queso
  • Fried Shrimp with Mango Salsa
  • Creole Soft-Shell Crab
  • Pulled Pork with Chinese BBQ Sauce

Edamame Hummus
Edamame hummus with grilled pita. You may add vegetable cut-ups for a small additional charge. 

Jumping Beans
Steamed edamame pods and kosher salt.
