Tequila Fun Facts To Prepare You For Our Margarita Madness Pool Party!

The Margarita Madness Pool Party at our Lake of the Ozarks waterfront bar & restaurant is nearly here! (This Saturday, July 28, as a matter of fact.) To prepare you for this awesome day at the Backwater Jack's pool filled with fun, live music, salsa dancing, samples, drink specials, Hornitos tequila, and margaritas (plus margaritas, and more margaritas!!!) we've provided you with a few fun facts to broaden your knowledge about some great topics; tequila, margaritas, and our very own upcoming pool party.

TEQUILA FUN FACTS

* The #1 tequila market in the world is the good ol' U.S. of A., larger than even Mexico!

* True tequila must be made in Mexico, the same as true champagne must be made in Champagne, France. If it is made outside of specific areas in Mexico, it is referred to as an agave spirit.

* Tequila is made from the agave plant. Many believe this to be a type of cactus, but it is actually a member of the lily family.

* It's the heart of the agave plant that is used to make tequila, and it can weigh anywhere from 80-200 pounds!

* There are 3 main types of tequila. Blanco (or Plata) which is unaged and bottled within 2 months of distillation. Reposado, which is aged between 2-12 months in barrels. Anejo, which is aged between 1-3 years in oak barrels. Other varieties you may come across include Extra Anejo, which is aged between 3-5 years in oak barrels and Joven or Oro, a mix between Blanco and Reposado.

MARGARITA FUN FACTS

* Some say that the margarita was named after a real-life woman. Margarita is the Spanish version of the name Margaret.

* The 1st importer of Jose Cuervo to the United States in 1945 sold it with the tagline "Margarita: it's more than a girl's name."

* In English, the Spanish word "margarita" actually translates to "daisy." It's most likely not a coincidence that an old prohibition drink with a very similar recipe to today's margarita was named The Daisy.

* In 1971, Mariano Martinez was inspired to create the first frozen margarita machine after seeing a Slurpee machine at a 7-Eleven. He used a soft-serve ice cream machine and transformed it so that it would serve frozen cocktails. This was a lot faster than making them individually in a blender, plus it proved to keep the drink frozen longer.

*Our next incredible party in the best lakeside pool at the Lake of the Ozarks, the Margarita Madness Pool Party, is happening on Saturday, July 28, 2018 from 11 am-7 pm
